Secure By Design, 2021
This work explores the liminal space around Belfast’s city centre, focusing on the Westlink city motorway. Infrastructural barriers, fences upon fences, demolished sites & surface car-parks disrupt the natural flow of the city & create a ‘dead-zone’ around the city centre, often keeping communities enclosed, as if unwelcome to the centre. This edge-land is neither one place or another, but a banal district all of it’s own, merely serving as a buffer between the city centre and those communities that lie just outside.

The work was exhibited outdoors, in 2021, in one of South Belfast’s residential alleyways. The group exhibition was called ‘Limin-alley’ and was curated by artist Meabh McIlgorm. It was part of Imagine! Belfast Festival of Ideas
