Patricia Millar is a ceramicist based on the Ards Peninsula in Co Down, who uses locally gathered fuel to pit fire ceramics, just like our ancestors did centuries ago. She digs local clay and makes her own ash glaze. Wood firing and pit firing create her unique surfaces, aided by the vast array of organic material she uses to colour the clay.
I initially met Patricia through an EU funded initiative called creative momentum & subsequently returned with Freckle magazine to document one of her pit-fire workshops - an amazing & special process.
